Westwood Elementary Pre-K is a public pre-kindergarten program serving the parents and families of Houston. As a pre-k, Westwood Elementary Pre-K provides a structured, stable learning environment that replicates the best of the formal school years ahead and is hosted on the same campus where they may even be able to attend kindergarten once they graduate pre-k. Pre-k provides more resources and opportunities for students to explore the world around them, as well as a bevy of peers and socialization opportunities. Westwood Elementary Pre-K additionally provides a full-time schedule that allows parents and students to get the best out of early care and education. Full-time education offers that structured learning environment for skills to grow, growth to happen and play to abound! Students get the opportunity to form lasting bonds with children their own age and a true community with staff, all the while parents have those long blocks of time to provide for their little ones. In addition, Westwood Elementary Pre-K takes a play-based approach to child development and education. Play-based curriculums emphasize students having the independence to explore their own interests at the time, be they creative, constructional, observational or artistic, and emphasize students being hands-on and natural with their activities. Staff at play-based curriculums take an active role in the discovery and learning process, encouraging students to dig in, explore, and cooperate with their peers to create the world around them.
