About Safe Haven Program

Safe Haven Program is a center-based child care and early education facility serving the students and families of Philadelphia! As a center, Safe Haven Program provides a school-like learning and enrichment environment that gives students a taste of what they’ll experience at more formal school in the years to come. Students at Safe Haven Program are provided the socialization opportunities that come with peers of similar ages, the enrichment opportunities that come with a center’s resources and structure, and the community that comes with experienced staff. In addition, a full-time schedule like the one at Safe Haven Program can be perfect for families. Parents get the benefits of long time blocks away from little ones to be at work or get others things done, and students get the benefits of a structured, communal learning environment during the years most important to brain development. Full-time gives students the real opportunities to explore, play, laugh and develop the social and behavioral skills that’ll benefit them tremendously in the years to come. In addition, Safe Haven Program teaches a mixed-age curriculum that facilities peer learning and communal growth. In a mixed-age classroom like at Safe Haven Program, students receive open-ended, stimulating activities and are encouraged to move at their own pace. Younger students receive help and encouragement from older students, boosting their confidence and self-esteem, and older students get to lend a helping hand, teaching empathy and the joy of giving. Mixed-age learning replicates the best of a family or neighborhood group structure as children socialize with peers a little ahead or a little behind their own development path.
